California’s leaders must immediately use every tool at their disposal to protect our state from Donald Trump’s racist agenda of mass detention and deportation. Mass detention and deportation will tear immigrant parents from citizen children, bring chaos to our neighborhoods, dispossess community members who have long called California home, and jeopardize public safety and trust.

- The event will begin with a rally and end with a march (0.5 miles) on the sidewalk. This may include crossing the street several times.
- Gathering in large groups increases the chance of
COVID-19 infection and other viruses. Masks are encouraged, and we ask that people stay home if they are feeling sick. The event will be outside.

✨ Last week, we stood in solidarity with @laresi

✨ Last week, we stood in solidarity with @laresistencianw in Tacoma, Washington, to demand the immediate shutdown of the Northwest Detention Center. Alongside immigrant justice groups from across the country, we joined forces to amplify the fight against immigrant detention, deportation, and criminalization. We also had the honor of unveiling a plaque in memory of Charles Leo Daniel, who tragically passed away in solitary confinement this March, where he had been held for 4 years despite suffering from mental illness. His death is a stark reminder of the neglect and abuse faced by people in detention, especially as NWDC holds individuals in solitary confinement longer than any other ICE facility in the U.S.

This action is another step in the ongoing struggle led by those most impacted by these systems of oppression. Together, we are challenging the expansion of deportation management tools and demanding an end to private detention in Washington State and beyond.
